Bridal Makeup that Stays All-Day

Eight Ways to Keep Wedding Makeup Fresh

The cliche is true: your wedding photos will last a lifetime. Use these eight tips for bridal makeup that looks great and lasts all day.

Moisturize.

Make sure that you use a moisturizer on your wedding day, before putting on your foundation.  Makeup doesn’t stick as well to the skin’s natural oils.  Also, wait ten minutes after moisturizing to put on your foundation.  The moisturizer isn’t effective until you let it settle in.

Use a Primer.

Consider using a makeup primer between the moisturizer and foundation stages.  Primers have a good reputation for extending makeup wear.  Once again, allow the primer to settle before applying foundation. Primer isn’t just for foundation, either.  Use it on your eyes to help extend the life of your eyeshadow.

Set with Powder.

Powder formulations have an amazing lasting ability.  Brush powder over your foundation, and always have your compact handy throughout the day for touch ups.

Blot.

Carry blotting sheets and be sure to wipe away excess oils as they appear.  This will keep them from washing away all of your hard work!

Waterproof your eyes.

Mascara and eyeliner both come in waterproof forms. Liquid eyeliner definitely beats a pencil in terms of staying power. You will need lots of practice with these, so start doing test runs several weeks in advance. Don’t forget to remove waterproof makeup only with high-quality makeup remover.

Lock in your lipstick.

There are many products available that have all-day potential.  However, you will want to go above and beyond for this day when it comes to your lips. Start by applying a little lip balm, and letting it settle in for a few minutes. Wipe away the excess, and while applying foundation and powder, also brush it over your lips. This creates the base for your lipstick. Be sure to wear lip liner to keep the lipstick from bleeding. Keep some in your purse for reapplication, and smile knowing that your lipstick is locked-in!

Mist with a finisher.

A good finisher will lock in your makeup for a true all-day stay. It’s like hairspray for your face.

Invest in all-day products.

If you aren’t hiring someone to do your makeup, you will most likely need to purchase some new products. Just don’t forget to add the waterproof makeup, all-day lipstick, and the makeup primer and finisher to your beauty toolkit! The purchases will be worth your while.
