Julie Kandelec nail artist celebrity

Ever since the age of 12, nail artist Julie Kandalec was passionate about nail art. Now, you can see some of this New York City-based artist's extraordinary works in some of the pages of popular magazines —InStyle, Marie Claire, Self, and Teen Vogue, just to name a few. She's even painted the piggies of up-and-coming starlet Brooklyn Decker! We got the inside scoop from a little girl who grew up to fulfill big dreams.

EndlessBeauty.com: How do you define success?
Julie: Success is when you love what you do so much that you forget it's your job.

EndlessBeauty.com: What was the turning point that led to your success?
Julie: I won the cover contest to Nails Magazine (a trade publication) in January 2010. They picked not one but both of my contest entries to grace their January covers. Winning that cover contest led to an ongoing chain of meeting other manicurists, editors, and photographers, all who played a large role in where I am today.

EndlessBeauty.com: What motivated you to succeed?
Julie: I love to grow, to teach, and to learn. I saw other professionals who were successful and happy, and they inspired me!

EndlessBeauty.com: What advice would you give to young women for succeeding?
Julie: Work towards your goals every single day. You may come across times you feel like giving up on your goals, but you must "keep on keepin' on." Think positively! Use the internet and network. Be kind to everyone. And be so good they can't ignore you! "A rolling stone gathers no moss."

EndlessBeauty.com: How empowering is it to be in the cosmetics and services industry?
Julie: I love that I am able to make women feel more beautiful and confident, build relationships with them, and be inspiring to them as well. I have been given so much knowledge and opportunity in both my professional and personal lives that it gives me great pleasure to pay it forward.

EndlessBeauty.com: What trends do you see becoming more prominent in the industry?
Julie: Nail art is really big right now. But modernized. Texture and glam is huge, glitter and crystals are super fun. Of course it's not for everyone, and that's ok! Coral lacquers are hot for spring. I'm also seeing eyelash extensions and skin care treatments growing fast. And tanning is definitely becoming less prominent!

EndlessBeauty.com: How do you think nail care and beauty products boost women's self-esteem?
Julie: When you look good, you feel even better. Who doesn't love being pampered? Whether it's an at-home mani or a full day at a spa, the power of touch is powerful.
