Shaving, although an essential step to most women’s beauty regimens, is a task that never seems to make our list of favorite things to do when getting ready. Unlike men, women typically have multiple areas of their body which need a little shaving and some good TLC. There are a few alternative ways of avoiding the need to shave such as waxing, laser hair removal, and DIY hair removal cream. While all of these can be good alternatives and may even keep your hair from growing back as quickly—let's face it, sometimes resorting to a razor is our only choice. If you are going to shave, make sure you do it right:
Always use water
It is very important to make sure that your skin is moist prior to shaving. Avoid dry shaving, as it's unpleasant and your skin won’t be happy. By allowing your skin to soak in a warm tub, the hair becomes soft, making it easier for your razor to remove unwanted hair. In addition to making hair removal easier, the skin’s moisture helps prevent itching and irritation.
Keep that razor clean
In addition to rinsing your skin prior to shaving, you should also make sure to rinse your razor between shave strokes. As we shave, we are removing tiny pieces of hair and those tiny pieces of hair can build up. Rinsing your razor blades will not only give you the silky smooth shave you desire, it will also prolong the life of your razor!
Replenish your skin’s moisture
After shaving, it is important to moisturize and replenish your skin using a lotion or moisturizer. A word of caution: avoid using lotions that contain alcohol. Lotions that contain alcohol won’t just dry out your skin, they can also cause irritation and a stinging sensation to skin that’s freshly shaven.
Skip a few days
In order to keep a fresh shave you should shave every two or three days—although it is perfectly fine to go a little longer if you wish. When repeating the shaving process, it is important to avoid shaving daily. This leads to skin irritation and can cause hair to grow back quicker and in some cases, darker.
Follow this four-step process, and you are bound to have those silky-smooth legs every woman desires.
