You heard correctly. Middle schools and high schools in South Dakota and central and northern California have started threatening the students who sport the "I heart boobies" bracelets with suspension, citing the language is offensive.

Students have also been asked to remove the bracelets. The bracelets are produced by the non-profit organization, Keep A Breast Foundation. One school district in California is claiming that the bracelets violate the school's dress code because of its 'sexually suggestive language.' The director of communications for the Clovis Unified School District had this to say: "That is why jewelry with sexually suggestive language like 'boobies' is not allowed on our campuses,” wrote Kelly Avants. “Please understand that the issue is related specifically to the choice of language on these bracelets and the fact that it specifically violates our existing dress code policy.”
I don't know how you feel about it, but I think anything that supports and donates to a cause, like breast cancer, should be allowed. I definitely don't think the language is offensive, and these kids should not be punished for supporting something so great.

Hi ladies. Thank you so much for commenting! I do agree they can be a distraction, especially for middle school students who don't fully understand the concept behind the bracelets, however, I don't believe all students think it's a joke.
I actually agree somewhat with Alana up there. One, for distraction, and two, because it's ... well ... it's a little objectification there. Middle and high schools are already rampant with girls who feel like their bodies are an object (to be controlled or fixed) - I'm not sure sending the message that "boobies" are separate from the women who own them is a good thing.
The message is great, the delivery ... off.
nice bracelet ,I glad to see the article. and I am agreet with you.Juicy Couture

I totally disagree here. I am a middle school teacher and these bracelets are totally distracting to the learning environment. The kids who wear these are not doing it to support breast cancer research - they are doing it because they can wear something that says boobies and pretend that's what it's for.
I love the concept of the bracelet and personally find them amusing, but not in a classroom. It's a complete distraction.
