For Valentine's Day, The Today Show’s Jenna Bush reported on the lost art and meaningfulness behind handwritten love letters, before the social media and technological boom. In the 1940s, communicating long distances required writing a letter with true heart and passion that describes how much in love you are with somebody.

Today, you can just send e-mails, a text reading “ I luv u”, and video chat with loved ones instantly and is a quick way to reach the person you are in love with. Personally, I think modern love letters lack a warm, personalized touch and thus reduce its meaningfulness and sincerity. Is writing what you love about your special somebody via email and text romantic? Is modern technology killing the art of romance?

Jenna Bush called on an emotional Former President Bush to read his penned words of love and devotion to wife Barbara Bush in a love letter:

“Will you marry me? Whoops I forgot you did that 49 years ago. I’m even happier today. You give me joy that few men know. I’ve climbed perhaps the highest mountain in the world but not even that holds a candle to being Barbara Bush’s husband. Little did I know I was only to trying to keep up with Barbara Pierce from Onondaga Street in New York. I love you.”

This year marks George and Barbara Bush’s 66th Valentine’s Day together and their love letters to each other are a perfect symbol for what Valentine’s Day signifies.
