Let's face it, just because there are Christmas lights everywhere does not mean that you are necessarily in the holiday spirit. In fact, the holidays can prove to be a time of feeling down or overwhelmed more than cheerful and upbeat. Don't let the holiday blues get the best of you this year - try to remember one or all of these useful tips for staving the blues this season.

Avoid Alcohol Over-Haul

There is no doubt that the holidays revolve around family, friend or work gatherings that typically incorporate alcohol. Having a few drinks in the spirit of the holiday season is fine, but it can be too easy to over-indulge and if you are already feeling a bit down about the holidays, alcohol can increase feelings of depression. Remember: Drink in moderation.

Enjoy Time Alone

The holidays are a wonderful time for getting together with family and friends; however the stress of constantly being around people you don't normally spend time with can be a lot to handle. Remember: Take some time for YOU, try going on a solo-walk.

Don't Overdo It

Volunteering to host a holiday gathering is a wonderful experience, but when you think about the pressures of cooking and cleaning the job can get overwhelming. However, just because you are the host does not mean that you must do everything on your own. Remember: Share the responsibility by asking friends to bring a food dish or come early to help with the decorating.

The holidays can be overwhelming, but they don't have to be. Remember these easy tips and stay calm - the holiday season should be enjoyed not stressed over.
